Premier announces dates and locations for next Work for Queensland expos
More Queenslanders will be able to reap the rewards from the state's resources boom next month by attending the next round of Work for Queensland Expos in the South East.
Premier Anna Bligh today announced dates and locations of the next Work For Queensland Expos - a key part of the Government's strategy to spread the opportunity of the mining boom across Queensland.
Ms Bligh said the resources industry offered a multitude of opportunities to Queenslanders both now and into the future.
'Last year we announced our Queensland Education Trust which is designed to use the wealth of the mining boom to boost the opportunities of our youngest Queenslanders into the future.'
'But we also want to ensure that as many Queenslanders as possible are able to get on board now.'
'The interest generated from the last Work For Queensland Expos was unprecedented, with more than 24,000 people - nearly enough to fill Skilled Park on the Gold Coast - attending Expos held at the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Maryborough, Whitsundays and Cairns.'
'Since then some 5,655 people have been referred to recruitment agencies by the resources companies and an additional 9,000 people approached Labour hire companies directly at the expos.'
'Around 3,000 jobseekers also expressed interest in the Resources 101 basic mining skills courses, which the State Government has since expanded from 500 places to 1000.'
'Now it's South East Queensland's turn and I'd encourage any interested Queenslanders to register their interest in attending the expos via the Skills Queensland website.'
Work For Queensland Expos will be held in the following locations:
Logan - 1 February, 10am - 4pm
Logan Entertainment Centre, 170 Wembley Road, Logan Central

A wide range of major resource companies have already signalled that they will again be represented at the Work For Queensland Expos.
