Skilled solutions for Mackay workers

Minister for Employment, Skills and Mining Stirling Hinchliffe today recognised the work of staff from the Mackay Skilling Solutions Queensland office in conducting over 4200 face-to-face interviews since 2006.

Mr Hinchliffe said the Mackay office had been highly successful in engaging industry partners.

"Across the state, the service works with industry and registered training organisations to assist thousands of Queenslanders each year to convert their industry and life experience into formal qualifications," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"Recently, staff from Mackay worked on site with local business the Dowdens Group to identify how their 165 member workforce could gain formal qualifications and improve their skill levels.

"There are enormous benefits to this type of service.

"It helps workers get qualified and employers with workforce planning and staff retention.

"Boosting the number of qualified and skilled workers supports local industries and means we all enjoy better services and a stronger economy."

Mr Hinchliffe said information and support services provided by Skilling Solutions Queensland helps the Bligh Government meet its Toward Q2 target of three out of four Queenslanders holding a trade, training or tertiary qualification by 2020.

Skilling Solutions Queensland was established in 2005 as an initiative of the State Government's Queensland Skills Plan and has assisted more than 125,000 people.
