Today's job market

In a rapidly changing job market, it is essential that all Queenslanders have access to accurate and up to date information on career pathways and employment prospects.

With new technology and new industries developing at a fast pace, the job market is a lot more competitive than it used to be.

Workers need to continue to train to gain the necessary skills to keep up with changes in the workplace, while job applicants need to have the right qualifications to make sure they are employable and can compete effectively with other applicants.

Continuous feedback from employers in a variety of industries has highlighted the importance of personal attributes or employability skills as a major influence in their decisions for recruitment. The Queensland governments Employability Skills Framework incorporates the following personal attributes that contribute to overall employability.

Loyalty, commitment, honesty and integrity, enthusiasm, reliability, personal presentation, commonsense, positive self-esteem, sense of humour, balanced attitude to work and home life, ability to deal with pressure, motivation and adaptability.

The key skills identified in conjunction with the personal attributes to make up the Employability Skills Framework are:

Communication, team work, problem-solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management, learning and technology.
